At first, she thought his close relationship with his mother was sweet.

He called her every day.

He asked for her opinion.

He told her everything.

She even admired him for being a mama’s boy.

Until she became his girlfriend.

Then she realized something was terribly wrong.

**His mother had an opinion about everything.**

Where they went.

What they bought.

What he wore.

How much money he spent on her.

Even when they would get married.

One day, he bought his girlfriend a beautiful phone.

His mother found out.

She called him immediately.

“Why are you wasting money on a woman when you haven't even taken care of your responsibilities at home?”

He returned the phone.

His girlfriend was shocked.

“You bought it for me. Why did you return it?”

He simply said,

“Please understand. I can't go against my mother.”

That wasn't even the worst part.

Whenever they had an argument, he called his mother.

Whenever she complained about something, his mother somehow heard about it.

And whenever she suggested something for their future, his response was always,

“Let me ask my mum.”

One evening, after another argument, his mother called her directly.

“I want you to understand something,” she said. “My son has always listened to me, and that will not change because of you.”

She was silent for a few seconds.

Then she asked,

“Ma, so where exactly do you expect me to fit into his life?”

His mother replied,

“You will know your place.”

That sentence broke something inside her.

She didn't want to take his mother’s place.

She simply wanted to have a place of her own.

She eventually ended the relationship.

People called her disrespectful.

Some said, “What kind of woman breaks up with a man because he loves his mother?”

But she knew the truth.

**She wasn't competing with his mother. She was competing with the control his mother had over a grown man's decisions.**

And honestly, that can become a serious problem in marriage.

A mother deserves respect.

A wife deserves respect too.

The problem starts when a grown man cannot make decisions without his mother's permission, or when every disagreement between him and his partner becomes a family meeting.

A man should be able to honour his mother without making his wife feel like a permanent outsider in her own marriage.

Now let's cause some trouble in the comments. 😂👇🏽

Ladies, would you marry a man who says, “My mother’s decision is final”?

Men, if your mother and your wife disagree, who should have the final say in matters concerning your marriage?

And mothers, be honest...

At what point does “protecting my son” become interfering in his marriage?**

Let's hear it. 👀
