I've seen small businesses spend money promoting posts, get plenty of likes and comments, and still wonder why nobody is buying.

The problem often starts before the ad even goes live.

Before you spend your first ₦1,000, get these things right.

1. Know exactly what you're selling.

Don't put five different products in one campaign.

Give people one clear offer.

2. Know who you're talking to.

Don't target "everyone."

Think about the person who actually has the problem your product solves.

What do they need?

What are they struggling with?

What would make them stop scrolling?

3. Give the campaign one goal.

Do you want sales?

WhatsApp conversations?

Leads?

Website visits?

Choose the main action you want people to take.

4. Write the ad around the customer's problem.

Don't start with:

"We are excited to announce our amazing product."

Start with what your customer cares about.

For example:

"Still spending hours chasing customers who said they'll pay later?"

Now you have their attention because you're talking about their reality.

5. Make the next step simple.

If you tell people to buy, make buying easy.

If you send them to WhatsApp, make sure someone actually responds.

If you send them to a website, make sure the product, price, benefits, reviews, and next step are easy to find.

Don't spend money getting people to a broken journey.

6. Test before you scale.

Don't put all your budget behind one creative and hope for the best.

Test different hooks.

Different creatives.

Different offers.

Different audiences.

Then pay attention to what actually brings results.

And please, don't judge your campaign by likes alone.

A post can get 20,000 views and generate nothing.

Another can get 2,000 views and bring customers.

What matters is what happens after the click.

Before your next Meta Ads campaign, ask yourself:

Can the right person understand what I'm offering within a few seconds?

Do they know what to do next?

And does the experience after the click make them want to continue?

Because running an ad is easy.

Getting the whole journey to convert is the real marketing work.
