The Owu Festival is a popular traditional festival celebrated once every year in a village called Amakohia Ubi in Owerri, Imo State. This cultural festival usually takes place around the months of June or July and is mainly centered around the display of masquerades.

From my experience, the main day of the festival is always lively and entertaining. On that special day, the masquerades come out in large numbers, dancing joyfully to the sound of traditional drums while people gather to watch and celebrate. The atmosphere is filled with excitement, music, and cultural pride as both indigenes and visitors enjoy the performances.

One beautiful part of the celebration is the special meal prepared by every household in the community on that day. The meal is called "Erusu" and families prepare it as part of the tradition of the festival.

However, after the main celebration day, visitors or strangers are usually advised to be careful about visiting the area. This is because the masquerades may become more aggressive as part of the traditional practices surrounding the festival
