Having fibroid does not mean you have to stop eating Nigerian food.

The goal is to eat in a way that supports your health, especially if you experience heavy menstrual bleeding.

 🇳🇬 Eat more of these:

🥬 Ugu, Ewedu, Worowo, Tete, Gure, spinach, okra and other vegetables
Good sources of fibre and micronutrients.

🫘 Beans, moi-moi and Ekuru
Affordable sources of protein and plant-based iron.

🐟 Fish
A good protein choice for regular meals.

🥚 Eggs
An easy source of protein and other nutrients.

🍊 Orange, guava, pawpaw and other fruits**
Vitamin C-rich fruits can help your body absorb iron from plant foods.

🍠 Yam, boiled plantain, potatoes, rice, amala, eba or semo
You don't need to eliminate these foods. The important thing is appropriate portions and what you combine them with.

⚠️ Reduce excessive intake of:

• Deep-fried foods
• Processed meats
• Very sugary drinks
• Excessive alcohol
• Very large portions of food

🩸 One VERY important point

If your fibroid causes heavy menstrual bleeding, you may lose a significant amount of iron.

That means foods such as beans, ugu, lean meat, fish and other iron-containing foods become particularly important. Combine plant sources of iron with vitamin-C-rich foods such as orange, guava or tomatoes to improve iron absorption.

And please don't rely on “fibroid-cleansing” drinks or herbal mixtures to shrink fibroids.

There is currently no specific food proven to dissolve or cure fibroids.

Nutrition supports your health; it does not replace proper medical treatment.
