Night travel is a common lifestyle in Nigeria, especially for people who want to move from one city to another without spending too much time on the road. Many travelers choose to board buses late in the evening and arrive at their destination early the next morning. For some, it has become a normal and convenient way of traveling.
One of the biggest reasons I discovered people prefer night travel is to avoid heavy traffic, yes, because I have traveled at night before, and the road was so calm and cool. During the day, many major roads are busy with cars, trucks, and commercial buses, which can make journeys longer than expected. Traveling at night usually means the roads are clearer, and drivers can move faster.
Another reason is saving time. Many travelers like the idea of sleeping in the bus and waking up in a new city. Instead of spending the whole day on the road, night travel allows people to arrive early and continue with their activities.
Night travel can also be more comfortable for some people because the weather is cooler. The heat during the day can make long road trips uncomfortable, but at night, the air is usually calmer and more relaxing.
However, night travel also comes with some concerns. Visibility is lower at night, and travelers need to rely on experienced drivers and well-maintained vehicles. Safety is also very important, which is why many people prefer traveling with trusted transport companies.
Despite the challenges, night travel remains a popular choice for many Nigerians. For workers, students, and traders, it is often the fastest way to move between cities while still making good use of their daytime hours.
