Yesterday night I had a conversation with a friend and she said, “As a generation, we’re more obsessed with the concept of things and people, than the actual thing…” stay with me. We’ve conceptualized feelings, people, partnership and community dynamics.
We don’t fall in love anymore, we theorize love, we don’t meet people, we meet projections, we don’t feel emotions, we analyze them in real time like we’re watching ourselves live. Turning life into an idea board.
And it’s not that we’re shallow, it’s that we’re over-intellectual. We’ve mistaken awareness with intimacy. I’ve also caught myself in moments where i’m thinking, “this is happening” as i watch, instead of letting it happen. As if life needs my commentary to be real.
Maybe when we stop holding ideologies around things and start letting things touch us, we’ll be happier
