I've never eaten sardine canned fish (including every other canned fish - but I will use "sardines" for this post) in my whole life. Yes, you heard me correctly.
Wait let me tell you a backup story....... ๐
While growing up at home, we never bought this fish. We used mangara, fresh fish or smoked fish. While at home, I can't remember seeing or coming across canned fish in general.
The very first time I saw it was in my 100lv in school. My roommates then buy it every eke market day. They can't cook indomie, spaghetti, or rice without sardine. Sometimes, they eat it alone or with bread.
Village girl in me were always covering my nose each time they brought it close to me, because I don't like the smell at all. Faith, one of my roommates then, asked me to come and join them one day when they were eating spaghetti cooked with the sardine, because I had earlier said I was hungry. I told her I can't eat because of the fish.
She was shocked. She asked why curiously. I told her I've never eaten sardine before, and I don't even like the smell of it. She burst out laughing, and others joined her ๐.
She said "Nwa Nsukka nke a eeeh, this your village life no be small ooo. Who hasn't eaten sardine before?"
Shame wear me oversized agbada. But I shaa told her; "you've seen someone today who has never eaten it before, and will not even eat it tomorrow."
Till today, I've never eaten sardine and every other canned fish, and I don't see myself buying it tomorrow for whatever reason. Even if you give me free, I won't even collect it.
Am I the only person who hasn't eaten sardine before?
