I have been going for Saturday morning workouts for 7 weeks now, and honestly, that one decision has helped me in ways I never expected.
But before I tell you how it has helped me, let me first give you a little back story 😉
You already know I like explaining how everything started so you people will understand me properly.
...
When I entered university in 2023, I used to see people jogging around school almost every morning, especially on Saturdays. At first, I never paid attention to it. I would just look at them and continue my life 😅
But after I moved out of the hostel, something changed. I started developing interest in it. I wanted to start jogging too.
In fact, I planned to start in 2024.
Did I start?
No 😭
I even tried to convince a few females from one of the groups I joined to form a jogging team so we could motivate ourselves and go together every Saturday morning. Everybody agreed with excitement.
But as usual, nothing happened 🤦♀️
Now some people might ask, “Why didn’t you just go alone?”
My dear, if you know me physically, you will understand my problem 😭
I am a very shy person offline 🙈, very introverted, very reserved. Forget this online version of me that talks too much and writes long stories 😂. In real life, entering a crowd alone feels like a big mission impossible for me.
So the idea of waking up one Saturday morning and going jogging alone around school? Ah. My body rejected it instantly 😭
That was how I kept procrastinating.
2023 passed.
2024 passed.
2025 passed.
The jogging dream was still sitting comfortably inside my head 😭
Then one Friday evening, April this year, one of my new lodge mates dropped a message in our group asking if anyone was interested in jogging the next morning.
Immediately, I entered his DM 😭
I explained my whole life story to him. I told him I had always wanted to start jogging, but I never had anyone to go with.
That guy tried ooo 😭
For one whole week, he kept encouraging me and asking, “Are you joining tomorrow?”
And every single time, I came prepared with fresh excuses 😭
One day it was “I did not sleep early, so I didn't wake up early.”
Another day it was “The weather is somehow.”
Another day it became “I am not mentally ready” 😂
Until one Saturday, he practically dragged me outside.
What helped me that period was that school was on holiday, so the environment was less crowded. Plus, I had been indoors for too long. Morning till night, Monday to Sunday, always inside my room and pressing phone 😭
So I finally decided to go, just to do away with boredom.
My people…
That first day of jogging, e sweet me oo, I no go lie 😭😂
But let me not make this post too long before some of you start running away from my story 😂
Do you want me to continue and tell you what happened on my first day of jogging and how I truly felt afterward?
If yes, let me know in the comments so I can continue from where I stopped ☺️
