Continuation…
If you have been following my hair journey, you already know it has been a full movie series 😅
I have shared how I started plaiting my hair in SS3 like it was a lifetime achievement. I told you how we were forced to loosen it during WAEC. I shared how I later cut the same hair I once longed for. I even confessed how I keep going back and forth between growing it and barbing it.
Now let me show you the current situation.
This picture is my recent look. This hair has been growing since March 2024. That is about two years of growth.
And guess what?
I am already thinking of barbing it again. 🫣
Please do not ask me the color of my problem because I truly do not know 🙆♀️
Anytime I casually say, “I might just barb this hair again,” my friends react like I have threatened their inheritance. They warn me seriously. They beg me. They shout. The way they talk, you would think I am keeping the hair for them, or maybe it's their property.
I do not understand 😆
Then sometimes, I talk to myself.
"After spending money on braids. On relaxers. On treatments. On products that promise shine and strength. After sitting for hours on salon chairs. After enduring tight braids and tender scalp. I will now carry clipper and remove everything again?"
What kind of human behavior is that? 😅
Even my mum has changed.
This is the same woman who almost disowned me when I first cut my grown hair in 2021. Now when I start complaining about how heavy my hair is or how stressful it feels, she just says, “Please, do whatever you want and let me rest. If you want to barb it, barb it. I am tired of hearing about your hair every day.”
From anger to surrender 😂
The truth is, my hair is very full. Very thick. Very stubborn. Add dandruff to the mix and you will understand why sometimes I just want peace.
If God had given me soft, easy hair, maybe I would not be shouting like this. Instead, I got strong, determined hair that refuses to behave. People admire and compliment it from the outside, but they don't know what I'm passing through with the hair.
Big head. Full hair. Stubborn dandruff 😭
Sometimes I even wish my hair would just stop growing at one convenient length and remain there. No stress. No overthinking. Just balance.
.
Looking back now, I finally understand what that teacher meant.
There is a time for everything.
Sometimes we rush into what looks like freedom because we think it is the ultimate goal. We do not realize that the same thing we are desperate for today might not excite us tomorrow.
Life has a way of humbling our urgency.
That hair I fought for in secondary school.
That hair I was forced to loosen.
That same hair I eventually cut by myself.
Funny how life teaches lessons in the simplest ways.
.
So now I am asking you.
Should I keep growing it?
Or should I shock everybody again and go skin? 😄
Help me decide before I enter the salon one random afternoon and make another headline decision.
