Turning thirty felt special.
I turned 30 thinking it would be a wonderful and lovely day.
I had expectations. People had made promises about gifts and surprises, and I believed them.
I woke up excited, waiting for the calls, the plans, the special moments.
But the day didn’t go the way I imagined. The promises weren’t fulfilled. The gifts I expected never came.
As the hours passed, I felt sad and disappointed. It wasn’t really about the gifts — it was about feeling remembered and celebrated.
Later, I realized something important: I had placed my happiness in other people’s hands. I had allowed their promises to control my joy.
So I decided to change that. I went out and bought myself everything I had been hoping to receive. And in that moment, I felt stronger.
I learned that if I want something special, I should plan it and give it to myself.
My 30th birthday didn’t give me what I expected, but it gave me a powerful lesson — never depend completely on promises.
Create your own happiness, and let anything extra be a bonus.
