Morocco kicked off the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 2–0 victory over Comoros, as goals from Brahim Díaz and Ayoub El Kaabi sealed a winning start in their tournament opener.

The Atlas Lions asserted their dominance early, controlling possession and pressing high up the pitch as they looked to impose their superior experience.

However, the hosts nation failed to break the deadlock in the first, although they came close as they were awarded a penalty, following a challenge on Diaz.

Meanwhile, Sofiane Rahimi failed to convert the chance, as his effort was denied by Comoros' goalkeeper, Yannick Pandor.

Morocco’s breakthrough came in the 55th minute, through Brahim, who produced a moment of quality to put his side ahead. The attacker found space on the edge of the area and finished calmly, rewarding Morocco’s sustained pressure and giving them a deserved lead.

Comoros attempted to respond following a counter, but goalkeeper Yassine Bounou did well to maintain the Lions' lead, as he saved Said's attempt.

The hosts doubled their advantage through El Kaabi. The striker capitalised on a well-worked move, finishing decisively with an overhead kick past Pandor.

With a two-goal cushion, Morocco managed the remainder of the match intelligently, slowing the tempo and seeing out the contest without major alarm. Comoros continued to show determination but lacked the cutting edge needed to get back into the game.

The victory gives Morocco an ideal start to their AFCON campaign and boosts confidence as they look ahead to the remaining group matches.

For Comoros, the defeat means they will need to regroup quickly and target positive results in their upcoming fixtures to keep their hopes alive.
