Story part 1.......
.
When I got admission into the university, I stayed in the school hostel during my 100lv. There was no second thought about it. Although I left the hostel after year 1, that period taught me a lot and shaped me in a way off-campus wouldn't have done if I stayed there in year 1.
In my school hostel - the particular hostel I stayed in, we were 10 girls in a room. You can imagine the coarse this can cause. Ten ladies in one hostel room. Some roommates argued and fought everyday. Body-shaming, unnecessary competition, favouritism, jealousy, hatred, and stealing was an everyday occurrence.
A typical struggle was water issue. I've never suffered to get water all my life like I did in 100lv. Most people wake up by 3am to line up buckets and gallons to fetch water. And after struggling to fetch one bucket of water to keep, go to lecture and come back to an empty bucket. Ask your roommates from now till tomorrow, "who used my water?", nobody would say anything. The highest you can hear is one person telling you "sorry oooo, nah so we dey see am for here." Cook better food and go out only to meet a well-washed empty pot and your roommates will just tell you sorry. Keep money anyhow and they will help you keep it well. I don't even want to talk about how many people that will spread their clothes in the quadrangle only for some of the clothes to disappear. This happens on a daily basis in the hostel, to the extent that it becomes normal.
These were funny but not funny when it happens to you.
Myself lost an underwater (yes, they steal pants too 🤣), towel, sponge, my only face cap then, my only high hill footwear, my favourite 3-quat jean, and the water issue.
There was a time we didn't have light for close to 3-4 months in the hostel. And as a new student in a new environment, it was not funny for me at all. We do go outside to charge our phones with money.
This is why we call the school "Frustration Under Tension Owerri (FUTO). If you know, you know. If you don't understand, forget about it. 😅
But that is not even the bone of contention of this post.
In my story part 1b, I will tell you how my roommates made a caricature of me all the time because to them, I always acted differently 😪😪
I don't want this post to get too long.
Stay tuned.
