Learn, unlearn, and relearn – that's the way it should be. The idea is to learn something new; at some point, you unlearn it and relearn something else. Not because what you learned is wrong, but because we live in a fast-paced world where what we learn can be true but not necessarily the absolute truth, as truth changes and doesn't stay consistent forever.
In the past, children weren't as overly active as they are now because they had each other. After school, a child would get home, eat, bathe, and go play in their neighbourhood with other kids. However, this pattern is hard for the younger generation to understand.
Someone might ask, why? When we have the internet. But just because it was true at the time doesn't mean I can send my kids to play with the neighbour's children now, not any more, and not as often.
However, the rate at which certain things change over time varies depending on the situation. I might call a friend and ask if I can come over, and that friend might say there's traffic and I'll take longer. By the time I leave my house and reach the express, I might not see any traffic, but does that mean my friend lied? No, perhaps when he left, there was traffic, which shows that the information was receptive to change – it was true at the moment, but it changed.
In 2018, if someone had said, "I just want to be at home and make my money from the comfort of my home," everyone would have tagged them as lazy. But that now seems to be the most disciplined way to be in this age.
The concept of one to learn, unlearn, and relearn signifies that a person is open-minded and able to admit when their information is wrong. The quote you can't teach an old dog new tricks has become outdated because older folks can still learn something new if they choose to.
That said, I believe everyone should get on this train: learn, because it is what humans do; unlearn, because the world's definition of truth changes; and relearn, because you want to succeed. Success is the ability to know something and use it to your benefit.
