Dining out in Lagos has become a status symbol, not an experience. Instagram feeds are flooded with pictures of “trendy” restaurants, neon signs, and fancy plating but when you actually taste the food, it’s often… underwhelming.

Pay ₦15,000 for a “signature dish” and end up with a portion that barely fills your plate. Order a cocktail for ₦5,000 and it tastes like someone forgot half the ingredients. Ambience might look good for your TikTok video, but the flavors are almost nonexistent.

This happens because Lagos restaurants have figured out the formula: charge premium, create hype, and rely on social media marketing. Experience, quality, and value have become secondary. They focus on the aesthetic, the vibe but let’s be honest, aesthetics don’t fill your stomach.

The funny thing is we keep paying for it. We still post and brag about overpriced meals as if they’re Michelin-starred.

Meanwhile, countless hidden gems serve incredible food at a fraction of the price but don’t get the clout unfortunately.
