Valentine's weekend is around the corner. Staying safe this Valentine’s Day does not mean you won’t have a fabulous time with your loved ones. Indeed, you can have both.

Don’t let the good vibes make you drop your guard. Criminals are also “celebrating” and are looking for easy targets.

Here is a bull's-eye checklist to help you move smart.

1. Don’t Post Your Location Live.
I know you want to show off your val dinner date experience, but wait until you get home. Posting “At XYZ Restaurant right now!” can put you in a compromised security situation. For a start, the bad guys know your house is empty (if you live alone) and also your exact location at that moment. Take a chill pill and post those photos the day after.

2. Guard Your Open Drink Like Your ATM PIN.
At bars and clubs, never leave your drink unattended. Not even to use the restroom. Not even with your friend. If you didn’t see it poured or lost sight of it, abandon it and get a fresh one.

3. Move Smarter at Night.
Valentine’s night is usually the peak period for pickpockets' & snatch-and-grab guys on motorbikes. Keep your phone tucked away, not dangling in your hand. If you must carry a bag, wear it crossbody and not on one shoulder.

4. Not All Deliveries Should Come to Your Doorstep.
If you ordered a gift online, try to avoid letting just any rider follow you straight to your door, if possible. Meet them at a nearby landmark or gate. You don’t know who is mapping out your exact apartment for a later visit.

5. ATMs Are Not Date Spots.
Avoid withdrawing cash at night, especially when alone. If you must use POS, do it in well-lit areas or inside a mall. Don’t flash huge wads of cash at public places. Criminals are on the lookout for those holding correct pepper (money).

6. Don’t be in a Hurry, Secure Your House Before You Step Out.
Double-check that your doors and windows are actually locked, not just closed. If you have a gate, lock it properly. Thieves know many people will be out late. Don’t make it easy for them.

Have fun and stay safe!
