The same questions. The same complaints. The same explanations. The same process, repeated hundreds of times.
People often talk about burnout in customer service as if it mainly comes from difficult customers. Sometimes it's the opposite. When every day starts to feel like a replay of yesterday, even a calm shift can leave you mentally exhausted.
That's what makes monotony dangerous. It doesn't always announce itself as stress. Sometimes it looks like losing curiosity, going through conversations on autopilot, or feeling drained before the day has properly started.
Repetition is part of the job. You can't eliminate it completely. But you can improve the experience around it.
Rotate responsibilities. Automate repetitive tasks where possible. Give teams room to actually solve problems, not just follow scripts. Create opportunities to learn something new.
Because customer service burnout isn't always caused by difficult people. Sometimes it's caused by doing the same thing for too long.
