IS LEMON REALLY GOOD FOR YOUR KIDNEYS?
Someone told you to drink lemon water because it “cleans the kidneys.”
But do your kidneys actually need a detox?
Your kidneys already perform an incredible job of filtering your blood and helping remove waste and excess substances from the body.
Lemon water is not a magic kidney cleanser.
However, lemon can still be part of a healthy diet. Citrus provides vitamin C, and lemon juice contains citrate. Citrate can be relevant to kidney-stone prevention for some people.
But that does NOT mean lemon water can treat kidney disease or replace medical treatment.
What actually supports kidney health?
• Drink enough fluid for your body's needs
• Avoid excessive salt intake
• Eat a balanced diet with vegetables and fruits
• Manage blood pressure and blood sugar
• Avoid unnecessary self-medication, especially frequent use of certain painkillers
• If you have kidney disease, follow your healthcare professional's individual advice about fluid, sodium, potassium and protein
And please don't force yourself to drink huge amounts of lemon water thinking “the more, the better.”
Lemon water can be a refreshing drink.
It is not a kidney detox.
Did you grow up hearing that lemon “cleans the kidneys”?
