Never take bike immediately once you arrived at your last bus-stop.
Okada riders (almost everywhere in Nigeria) are smarter than you think.
(I was one of them. Back in Mowe, Ogun State I rode installment bike for five years before coming back home.
But anyway. Mowe stories and how I mastered taking passenger Mowe to Ibafo to Berger and then all the way to 7UP in Lagos State without being caught by Metro Police, I will tell you everything later on.
Just make sure you're following me to not miss out on any of my juicy jumpy kinky experience).
Now back to Ogbomoso.
Calm down first. Either today is your first time or you've been here all along for a very long time, the local tactics is still the same.
If you're not inherently sure of the road or where you're going. Look around and see if there's any local woman selling whatever eatable things women sell.
Go to that place and buy any small thing you could and request for a chair to sit down.
"Please, can I get a chair to sit down?" Ask politely but look them straight in the eyes.
Most local women will blush and smile a little bit. They usually respect such attitude and behavior.
As you're enjoying what you bought (either biscuits or bread and Coke or corn - whatever) tell the woman, "I am going to so so so place ma and I'm scared of the bike man, they can bill me beyond what is normal since I don't know the place."
She will laugh. You too laugh. Let each other know you've once been fööled by (we) the bike men.
Remember to let her know you don't know the place at all and she should please guide you thoroughly.
In my experience, if she didn't know the place she will ask "Mama Junior, shey you know Gaa Lagbedu this brother is going there?"
Never have I get lost once all my life of travel and moving around since the day I knew that tactics.
And always it saved me unnecessary spending. Because Okada people out there don't get joy.
Ooohh boy! We're doing this for a living and we pray for blessing (JJC - Johnny just come - that will make the prayers come true).
So yeah. That's my little tactics you can use inside Ogbomoso to never get lost or get ripped by my people (Okada men).
Although some time you don't have time to worry about being ripped off or not.
You come down. You look around and wave a bike over.
The bike arrived. You jumped behind after telling the bike where you're going.
Not necessarily giving a fûck about whatever price he called.
Yeah, yeah. I sometimes do that too.
But at least, I am doing it on purpose not because someone is trying to be smarter than me while going street by street when he could have passed the major road that lead straight to my destination.
Wink. You get the idea now?
See you on my next post.
