That comment from Tunde Perry saying “Igbos are spoiling this country” because Chukwueze missed a penalty really rubbed me the wrong way.
Imagine carrying that level of tribal anger inside you, just waiting for an excuse to release it. One football moment and suddenly it’s no longer about the game, it’s about tribe. That alone tells you how broken our priorities are.
Chukwueze missing a penalty didn’t put people to bed hungry. It didn’t make roads collapse or schools rot. But instead of directing anger at the people who actually failed us, it’s easier to point at a footballer and hide behind ethnicity.
I watched the Morocco match and the stadium stood out immediately. The structure, the calm, the organization. Then reality hit me. We love calling ourselves the Giant of Africa, but giants don’t struggle with basic things year after year.
As long as we keep turning frustration into tribal insults, nothing changes. We’ll just keep finding new people to blame while the real culprits sleep comfortably.
