When I first started looking into relocating, I kept hearing that Europe was “hard” to move to legally. But after actually going through the process, I realized something different.

The Netherlands is surprisingly one of the more straightforward countries if you understand the right pathways.

Since moving here, I’ve come across a few visa routes that are worth knowing, especially if you’re planning long-term.

1. Highly Skilled Migrant Visa

This is one of the most common routes. You’ll need a company in the Netherlands to sponsor you, and there’s a salary requirement you have to meet. The last time I checked, it was around €46,000 annually for most people.

What makes this option attractive is how fast it can be processed, plus the potential to qualify for the 30% tax ruling.

2. EU Blue Card (This is what I’m currently on)

This one is also for skilled professionals, especially in fields like tech, finance, healthcare, and consulting.

You’ll need a strong job offer that meets a higher salary threshold, but the advantage is that it can make your path to permanent residency smoother.

3. ICT Permit (Intra-Company Transfer)

Honestly, this is the one more people should talk about.

If you already work for an international company, there’s a chance you can get transferred to their European office. That means you might not even need to start job hunting from scratch.

For me, understanding these options changed everything. It stopped feeling like a guessing game and started feeling more like a plan.
