Life is hard. Sometimes brutally hard. You can work hard and still fail, do everything right and still get disappointed, make plans and watch life go in a completely different direction. That is reality. But just because life is hard does not mean you should lower your expectations for yourself or decide that your circumstances are the best your life can offer.
And this is where I think some of us need to be honest with ourselves. You cannot keep sitting around waiting for somebody to come and save you. Waiting for your daddy, your uncle, someone abroad, a partner, somebody with money or connections to suddenly change your life. Yes, people can help you, and God can use people to bless you, but that cannot be your plan.
At some point, you have to get up and fend for yourself. You have to look at where you are and ask, “What can I do from here?” If you don't have the skill, learn it. If you don't have the money, figure out how to make it. If you don't have the opportunity, go looking for one. Because waiting for perfect circumstances is still waiting.
And please, if you want more from life, stop playing small. You cannot keep dreaming about a bigger life while making every decision from fear and limitation. Your circumstances may be your reality, but they do not have to become your ceiling.
And maybe that is the part we don't talk about enough. You can accept that life is hard without accepting that your life will always be hard. You can acknowledge where you are without deciding that this is where you will stay. There is a difference between being realistic and giving up on yourself.
And through all of this, have a strong backup: God. People will disappoint you. People will change. People may not show up when you need them. But God will always be God.
So pray, ask for direction, and then get up and do your part.
Because nobody is coming to save you.
And honestly, that is not a depressing thought. It is a freeing one.
It means you can stop waiting and start building.
