I used to have little to no idea what Philosophy was really about — until I took a compulsory course that forced me to learn about Aristotle, Plato, Socrates, and others. I had to understand why people even bother to philosophies, and the theories that shaped their thinking.
To be honest, it was both educational and boring at the same time. Reading through the course topics wasn’t always exciting, but it slowly opened my eyes.
The old me had already boxed all philosophers as atheists, and I never found anything about their lives interesting. That mindset didn’t leave room for curiosity — until exposure changed it.
I’ve learned that you never truly realize how much you don’t know until you’re confronted with new ideas. Philosophy did that for me. It challenged assumptions I didn’t even know I had.
Lesson learned: read widely and read deeply.
P.S. It was a compulsory Year Two course in my school. If not for that, I probably would never have explored philosophy at all. Surprisingly, it was fun while it lasted
