If your phone was stolen in Nigeria, don’t try to confront or physically track the thief yourself. Use the phone’s official tracking service and report the location to the police.
1. If it is Android
Go to [Google Find Hub](https://www.google.com/android/find/?utm_source=chatgpt.com) and sign in with the Google account that was on the stolen phone.
You can:
See its current or last known location.
Make it ring.
Lock it and display a message/phone number.
Erase it remotely if you believe you won't recover it.
2. If it is an iPhone
Go to [Apple Find My](https://www.icloud.com/find/?utm_source=chatgpt.com) and sign in with your Apple Account.
Select the iPhone and use Mark as Lost. You can also see its location and, if necessary, erase it remotely. Don't remove the iPhone from Find My, because doing so can remove Activation Lock.
3. Get your IMEI number
Your IMEI can help identify the phone when making a police report. You may find it:
On the original phone box.
On your purchase receipt/invoice.
In your Google/Apple account or device records.
From your network provider.
Give the IMEI, phone number, model, serial number and any tracking-location screenshots to the police.
4. Report the theft
You can report the incident to the Nigeria Police Force. For cyber-related reporting, the NPF National Cybercrime Centre also has an e-reporting portal.
5. Protect your money and accounts immediately
Contact your network provider to block/replace the SIM, then secure:
Bank/mobile banking apps
WhatsApp
Gmail/Google account or Apple Account
Social-media accounts
Any payment apps
Important: If Find Hub/Find My shows a location, don't go there yourself. Screenshot the location and give it to the police.
