I used to think you needed money to start anthing serious. But living here showed me something different. In Lagos especially, I’ve seen people start with nothing and build something real just by being smart and consistent.

If I had to start again today with zero capital, this is exactly how I would do it.

First, I would start with what I already know.
I wouldn’t waste time trying to learn something completely new. I would look at the skills I already have. Maybe I can talk well, maybe I can help people find things, maybe I can cook, maybe I understand social media. Around here, what you know is already valuable. I’ve seen people turn simple skills into a daily income.

Second, I would become a middleman.
This is one of the easiest ways to start without money. I don’t need to own products. I just connect buyers and sellers and take my cut. For example, I can help someone find an apartment, link people to vendors, or even sell clothes for someone else and collect commission. This works a lot in Lagos because people are always looking for trusted connections.

Third, I would use my phone like it’s my office.
My WhatsApp status alone can become a business tool. I can start posting items for sale, advertise services, or even help promote other people’s businesses. I’ve seen people make steady money just from consistently posting and responding to messages. No shop needed, just data and consistency.

Fourth, I would start small and reinvest everything.
Even if I make a small profit today, I wouldn’t spend it. I would put it back into the business. That’s how it grows. Around here, the people who succeed are not always the ones who started big; they’re the ones who kept going and kept reinvesting.

Fifth, I would focus on trust more than anything.
In Nigeria, people buy from those they trust. If I’m honest, responsive, and consistent, people will come back and even refer others. That alone can grow a business faster than money.

Starting without capital is not easy, I won’t lie. But it’s very possible here if you’re willing to start small, stay patient, and use what you already have.

What’s the fastest money you’ve ever made with little or no capital?
