There are eleven (11) electricity distribution companies in total. Getting a prepaid meter from any of these companies is relatively straightforward.
Our focus here is on the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
Steps to Get a Prepaid Meter from IBEDC:
Step 1: Log on to the website: www.ibedc.com
Step 2: Click on Metering
Step 3: Click on MAP
Step 4: Fill in the required information
Step 5: Your premises will be visited for a technical evaluation
Step 6: Make payment for the meter
Step 7: Await meter installation within ten (10) working days after registration
Follow the steps above and free yourself from estimated billing. Once you are metered, your only obligation to the distribution company is to purchase electricity tokens for your prepaid meter as and when due.
The only time you may have issues with electricity distribution companies is if you bypass your prepaid meter. Meter bypass is a grievous offence and is punishable under the law.
