I started earning online in 2020 when I was a student.
I started from 0.75/word Naira in 2020, now 'we' are doing dollars (to God be the glory)
I got one client from LinkedIn, she paid $50 for just 1500 words.
Last year, I got one from Upwork who paid $120 for 5k-words.
In this short post, I'm about to show you one proven to start earning money from the comfort of your home.
Oya, come, sit down, as we dive into the main gist!
Freelance Writing
When I was in ND, I discovered freelance writing.
Omo, I'm glad I did, because it saved me from financial embarrassments.
You know the good thing about freelancing ehn? It's the fact you can begin and start earning with your smartphone.
Just be a good writer, researcher, and know how to market yourself.
How to Start Freelance Writing
Having said that, here's a quick step-by-step guide.
1. Develop or learn your writing skill
This is the first step and the basic requirement.
Learn how to write quality content because no client would pay for poor piece.
2. Get the required tools
Get a Smartphone or laptop, depending on your financial capacity.
Quality internet connection is non-negotiable.
3. Download the necessary apps
These includes Google docs, Grammarly, Plagiarism checker, and Sampling Ai,
4. Choose a niche and write three quality articles
Choose a niche of your choice. It can be sport, health, entertainment, lifestyle, etc.
You might consider your passion while choosing a niche.
Go for a niche you like and can talk about it from morning till night.
Now, choose three topics in that niche and develop them.
Write the article as if you will submit to a client.
They will serve as your samples or portfolio while searching for clients.
Step-by-step writing procedures
Here's a brief writing process I always adopt:
• Research and get quality information about the topic
• Create an outline for your topic
• Write the topic using Google Docs (Remember your intro must be catchy)
• Remove grammar and spelling errors from the draft using Grammarly
• Check uniqueness using Plagiarism Checker
• Check AI score using Sampling AI tool
• Format your final draft (Add H3, H2, bolded font, etc)
• Submit and get paid.
5. Search for clients
This is where the hustling begins because getting a client can be stressful.
Try different freelancing marketplaces such as Fiverr, Upwork, and People Per Hour.
Create an optimized profile on each of the platforms and start applying.
Alternatively, you can search for clients on social media platforms.
I got my first client on Nairaland (Normal Nairaland oo).
LinkedIn, X, and Instagram — there are clients everywhere.
It depends on how you position yourself.
That's why you must watch what you do or post on your social media pages. (This one na different topic on its own)
