The first thing I paid attention to was distance and daily routine. I considered how long it would take to get to school every morning and how tiring the journey could become over time. I visited schools close to home and observed how students arrived and left, because I knew that long, stressful commutes could affect my focus and energy in class.

I also paid close attention to the learning environment. During school visits, I sat quietly and watched how teachers interacted with students. I asked about class sizes, teaching methods, and how the school handled discipline and academic support. I didn’t just want a school that focused on punishment; I wanted one that encouraged learning, guidance, and improvement. Seeing teachers patiently explain lessons and students confidently ask questions reassured me.

Another major factor was academic consistency. I asked questions about WAEC performance, extracurricular activities, and how the school supported students who were struggling. I paid attention to how organized the administration was  how they answered questions, kept records, and communicated expectations. These details helped me understand how seriously the school took education.

Finally, I listened to people’s experiences. I spoke to current students, parents, and even former students around Agege. Their honest feedback helped me see past marketing and focus on reality. Some schools looked good on the outside but lacked structure, while others were simple yet effective.

Looking back, I don’t regret my choice because I picked a school that matched my needs, discipline level, and long-term goals. The process taught me that choosing a secondary school isn’t about prestige  it’s about finding an environment where you can grow academically, socially, and personally.
