Today, wedding in Nigeria has become a luxurious industry that many able and age-ready men get dreaded by the enormous cost it brags. Due to this, so many have either decided to ditch marriage or settle for cohabitation in a bid to manage the pressure of loneliness.
I'm here to let you know that you can actually walk through that journey successfully and happily even with that tiny budget you think is too small. Let's get to see how I achieved mine with ease, with absolutely no debt.
1. Set a Clear Budget First
Decide the exact amount you can afford before making any plans. Let every decision, venue, clothes, food, and décor-fit into that figure.
2. Prioritize What Truly Matters
List the three most important things to you as a couple (e.g., food, photography, or venue). Spend more on those and cut costs on less important items.
3. Keep the Guest List Small
In Nigeria, food and drinks take a huge part of the budget. Invite only close family and true friends to avoid unnecessary expenses.
4. Choose an Affordable Venue
Use church premises, family compounds, or community halls instead of expensive event centers. This can save a large part of your budget.
5. Simplify Your Outfit and Décor
Rent wedding attire instead of buying.
Use simple, elegant décor rather than over-the-top designs.
6. Use Trusted Friends and Family Talents
Ask friends or relatives who are photographers, makeup artists, MCs, or caterers to help at discounted rates or as a wedding gift.
7. Avoid Unnecessary Traditions and Pressure
Don’t feel forced to follow every social expectation. Focus on the marriage, not the show. A simple, peaceful wedding is better than a flashy one that leaves you in debt.
