First, I avoid peak hours whenever possible. If I need to be somewhere by 9 AM, I try to leave super early or push errands to after 7 PM. The roads are slightly calmer then, and at least I’m not squashed in a danfo while everyone’s screaming over who gets the last seat.

For longer trips across VI, I stick to Uber or Bolt. Yes, it costs a bit more, usually ₦1,000–₦2,000 depending on traffic, but at least I can chill, use my phone, and not stress about getting lost. For shorter distances, I go with a trusted bike or keke rider I already know cheaper, faster, and they know all the backstreets that save me 15–20 minutes.

Other hacks I use keep my phone charged, share my ride info with a friend, and always plan my route. Even small things like knowing which side streets are usually empty during rush hour can make a huge difference.

For me, traffic on Victoria Island is still chaotic, but with these little tricks, I manage to stay mostly sane, on time, and (sometimes) enjoy the ride.
