Imagine reminding your boyfriend about your birthday for weeks, only for him to forget it completely... then you see him celebrating another woman's birthday. What would you do? 👀
Let me tell you a story.
Amaka had been looking forward to her birthday for weeks.
Not because she wanted an expensive gift or a surprise party.
She just wanted to feel remembered.
A few days before the birthday, she even told her boyfriend, Daniel, "Please don't forget my birthday o. I want us to spend the day together."
Daniel laughed and said, "How can I forget? I know the date."
So Amaka was excited.
She imagined them having dinner, taking pictures, and just enjoying their day together.
Then her birthday came.
Morning passed.
Afternoon came.
Nothing.
No birthday message.
No call.
No "Happy birthday, my love."
At first, she thought maybe he was planning a surprise.
By evening, she started feeling silly for expecting too much.
Finally, she called him.
"Daniel, you didn't even wish me happy birthday."
There was a long pause.
Then he said, "Ah, I'm sorry. I completely forgot. Work has been stressful."
Amaka didn't know whether to cry or laugh.
"Okay," she said.
But it wasn't okay.
The next day, she opened Instagram and saw a picture.
Daniel was standing beside his female colleague, holding a cake.
The caption read:
"Happy birthday to an amazing colleague. You deserve all the best!"
Amaka stared at the screen.
Then she checked the date.
It was her birthday.
The same day he had forgotten hers.
She called him.
"Daniel, you remembered your colleague's birthday?"
He replied, "It's not what you think. We work together. It was just a small office celebration."
Amaka said, "I'm not saying you can't celebrate her. I'm asking why you couldn't remember mine."
Daniel became defensive.
"Are you seriously comparing yourself to my colleague?"
And honestly, that was not what she was doing.
She wasn't competing with another woman.
She was trying to understand why the person she loved could remember someone else's special day but forget hers.
Maybe Daniel genuinely forgot.
Maybe the office celebration had been planned by someone else.
Maybe there was nothing romantic about it.
But Amaka still had a question.
If someone can remember the birthday of a colleague, a friend, or even a casual acquaintance, why is it so difficult to remember the birthday of the person they claim to love?
And another question...
Is the real issue the forgotten birthday, or the fact that she had to remind him that she mattered?
Because sometimes, it's not about the cake.
It's about the effort.
It's about feeling considered.
It's about knowing that the little things matter to the person you're with.
Now, let's talk.
If your partner forgot your birthday but remembered another woman's birthday, would you be upset?
Would you consider it a red flag, or would you simply ask for an explanation and move on?
And be honest...
If you were Amaka, would you forgive him immediately, or would you need time to process how you felt?
