Pourquoi means why in French. If you have children ages 4-8, you would probably have heard more than a thousand and one why questions from them. Pourquoi stories that answer the questions "why" and "how" are a great way to engage them.
While growing up, we listened to stories about how the tortoise got its cracked shell, why the leopard has stripes and so on. Although such stories were folktales rooted in our oral traditions, they offered interesting answers, albeit untrue, to certain questions.
One way to engage our children in learning God's Word, especially the age group I mentioned, is through pourquoi stories.
You can do this by rebranding the titles of Bible stories. For example:
đWhy Esau lost his birthright.
đHow Joseph found himself in Egypt.
đWhy Mighty Samson lost his eyes.
đWhy Jesus is the Saviour of the World.

You know how we listened keenly to "Tales by Moonlight" as children, using catchy titles that address the how and why of events in the lives of Bible characters in order to reveal the gospel, will go a long way toward sustaining children's curiosity and providing the answers they seek in God's Word.
