Matchday two of the 2024 African Cup of Nations produced late dramas, with Zambia securing a late draw against Mali, South Africa clinching all three points, while Egypt stole it late.

Patson Daka scored a 92nd minute equaliser to cancel out Lassine Sinayoko's 61st minute goal as Zambia secured a dramatic 1-1 draw against the Malians, in their AFCON opener in Casablanca.

Mali should have gone ahead in the first half, as they were presented a golden opportunity, after Dourgeles Nene was fouled in the box. However, El Bilal Toure's penalty was brilliantly saved by Willard Mwanza.

The Malians eventually took the lead through Sinayoko's rebounded effort, before Daka ensured the spoils was shared late on.

Meanwhile, South Africa edged out Angola in Group B opener, with a 2-1 victory, courtesy of goals from Oswin Appollis and Lyle Foster.

Hugo Broos' side ensured to keep their unbeaten run against Angola at the AFCON, as they found the net first, as Appollis' right-footed finish found the bottom corner.

Ronwen Williams stayed solid to keep the lead with two brilliant saves, but the Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper was unable to stop Show's sliding finish from Fredy's freekick, as Angola got the equaliser in the 35th minute.

Tshepang Moremi thought to have given South Africa the lead back, but his effort was chalked off for offside, following Foster's interference.

However, the latter eventually got the winner for the Bafana Bafanas in the 79th minute, thanks to a curling effort that went past Hugo Marques.

Egypt also got the job done, courtesy of efforts from Premier League's forwards, Manchester City's Omar Marmoush and Liverpool's Mohammed Salah.

Meanwhile, Salah's late winner rescued the victory for the Pharaohs, as they came from behind to win 2-1 in their opening match of the 35th edition of the African Cup of Nations.

The seven-time AFCON winner, despite dominating from the proceedings, fell behind first, as Prince Dube tucked the ball past Ahmed El Shenawy in the first interval.
However, the Egyptians complete dominance in the second half, paid off, with Marmoush getting the equaliser in the 65th minute, before Salah sealed the victory in the 91st minute.
