Emmanuel the Great Oracle
In the crowded streets of Lagos, where generators roared louder than dreams and every young man fought to survive another day, there lived a quiet boy named Emmanuel.
People knew him as stubborn. Some called him strange. Others laughed at him because he asked too many questions about life, destiny, and why suffering seemed to follow good people.
Emmanuel came from a poor background. Many nights, there was no electricity, no proper food, and no assurance about tomorrow. While his mates chased quick money, Emmanuel spent hours thinking deeply about the future. He believed there was something bigger hidden inside him.
But life was not easy.
He searched for jobs without success. He tried business ideas that failed. Friends betrayed him. Relatives mocked him.
“Dreams don’t feed people,” one uncle told him.
Yet Emmanuel refused to die inside.
One rainy evening, after another disappointing day, he sat alone outside his small room. The rain touched the zinc roof while darkness covered the compound. Suddenly, an old man appeared from nowhere and sat beside him.
“You carry a heavy spirit,” the old man said.
Emmanuel looked confused. “Sir, life is just hard.”
The old man smiled slowly.
“No. You are not ordinary. You are Emmanuel the Great Oracle.”
Emmanuel almost laughed.
Oracle? Him? A struggling young man with empty pockets?
The old man continued:
“An oracle is not only someone who predicts the future. A true oracle sees what others ignore. Pain opened your eyes. Failure sharpened your wisdom.”
Before Emmanuel could ask more questions, thunder struck nearby. People screamed and ran for shelter. When Emmanuel turned back, the old man had disappeared.
That night changed everything.
Emmanuel began observing people carefully. He noticed that many were rich outside but broken inside. He realized people were hungry — not only for money, but for hope, direction, and truth.
Slowly, people started coming to him for advice.
A woman whose marriage was collapsing spoke with Emmanuel and found peace again.
A frustrated young man who wanted to join crime changed his path after one conversation.
Even older men began respecting his words because somehow, Emmanuel always spoke with unusual wisdom.
Soon, the streets gave him a new name:
“Emmanuel the Great Oracle.”
But fame brought enemies.
Some people accused him of using dark powers. Others became jealous of the respect he received. Fake prophets challenged him publicly.
One day, a wealthy politician invited Emmanuel to his mansion.
“I want power,” the politician said. “Help me control people, and I’ll make you rich.”
Emmanuel stood silently for a moment before replying:
“Power without truth destroys the soul.”
The politician became angry and ordered his guards to throw Emmanuel out.
Days later, the same politician was exposed in a massive corruption scandal that shocked the nation.
People began believing Emmanuel carried uncommon insight.
But Emmanuel never called himself a prophet or a miracle worker.
Instead, he always said:
“The greatest oracle is wisdom. The greatest prophecy is understanding yourself before it is too late.”
Years passed.
The poor boy who once sat hopeless under the rain became a voice many respected. Not because he was perfect, but because he survived pain without becoming evil.
And till today, in hidden corners of the city, old men still tell young people about the mysterious man called Emmanuel the Great Oracle — the man who turned suffering into wisdom and darkness into light.
