The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained Dr. Chris Ngige, former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment.
The development was confirmed on Tuesday by his former media aide, Fred Chukwuelobe, who refuted social media reports claiming the ex-minister had been kidnapped.
In a brief statement, Chukwuelobe explained that Ngige was not abducted but is currently in the custody of EFCC operatives.
He said:
“Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later.”
His clarification followed widespread online speculation suggesting that unidentified gunmen had taken Ngige away.
Ngige, who served as Labour Minister under former President Muhammadu Buhari, recently made headlines after gunmen attacked his convoy in Anambra State. Although he was not inside the vehicle during the assault, the incident heightened public anxiety regarding his safety.
As of the time this report was filed, the circumstances surrounding his arrest and the specifics of the EFCC’s investigation have not yet been disclosed.
