Over the past few weeks, you’ve probably seen headlines about Ebola again.
And naturally, a lot of Nigerians are asking the same question: “Is Ebola back in Nigeria?”
The short answer is: No.
According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), there is currently no confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria. However, health authorities are closely monitoring the ongoing outbreak in parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda and have increased surveillance across the country.

Looking back, one of the biggest lessons from the 2014 outbreak wasn’t just about Ebola.

Here’s what Nigerians should actually know:

🔸 Not every fever is Ebola. Many common illnesses can have similar early symptoms.
🔸 Avoid sharing unverified health information from social media or WhatsApp groups.
🔸 Follow updates from trusted sources such as the NCDC and the Federal Ministry of Health.
One thing Nigeria got right during the 2014 outbreak was taking public health seriously.
The goal today isn’t panic. It’s awareness.
Most Nigerians don’t need to change their daily lives right now.
But we do need to stay informed, avoid rumours, and pay attention to updates from health authorities.
