📚 WEEK 2: BUSINESS MODELS — UNDERSTAND HOW MONEY MOVES

🎯 TIME FOR MONEY — THE TRAP MANY PEOPLE DON'T SEE

Lagos. 6:10 a.m.

Emeka woke up thinking about yesterday's lesson.

He had learnt:

YOU FIT WORK HARD AND STILL REMAIN BROKE.

He had also learnt that a business is more than the product you sell.

You must understand the model behind the money.

But one question kept disturbing him.

He opened his notebook and wrote:

TIME → WORK → MONEY

Then he asked himself:

> “If I must always exchange my time for money, how far can I really grow?”

That question changed the way he looked at business.

🕘 9:00 A.M.

Emeka visited a barber shop.

The barber was very good at his work.

Customers liked him.

He had regular clients.

His shop was busy.

Emeka watched as customer after customer came in.

Cut.

Payment.

Next customer.

Cut.

Payment.

Next customer.

After some hours, Emeka asked:

“Boss, business dey move?”

The barber smiled.

“Thank God. I dey try.”

“How many customers you fit attend to in one day?”

The barber thought for a moment.

“Maybe 15 to 20.”

“And if you no come shop today?”

The barber laughed.

“Then no haircut. No haircut, no money.”

Emeka nodded.

He opened his notebook.

He wrote:

TIME FOR MONEY

🕚 11:15 A.M.

Emeka met Kunle.

“Guy, I don understand something.”

Kunle smiled.

“Wetin you understand today?”

“If I work, I make money.”

“Correct.”

“If I stop working, the income fit stop too.”

“Correct.”

Emeka continued:

“That means my time get limit.”

Kunle nodded.

“You get only 24 hours every day.”

“Exactly.”

Emeka looked at his notebook.

> “So if I want grow beyond my personal time, I need think differently.”

Kunle asked:

“Like how?”

Emeka replied:

“Systems. People. Technology. Products. Processes.”

“Things wey fit help the business serve more people without everything depending on only me.”

🕐 1:20 P.M.

Emeka decided to compare two simple businesses.

BUSINESS A

One person provides a service personally.

They work 8 hours.

They serve 10 customers.

When they stop working, the service stops.

Their income is closely connected to the time they personally put in.

BUSINESS B

Another entrepreneur also provides a service.

But over time, the entrepreneur builds:

👥 A trained team

⚙️ Standard processes

📱 Technology

📚 Training materials

📊 Customer records

🔄 Repeatable systems

Now the owner does not personally perform every single task.

The business can potentially serve more customers through the system.

Emeka looked at Kunle.

“See the difference?”

Kunle nodded.

“One person dey depend mainly on personal effort.”

“The other person dey build something bigger than personal effort.”

“Exactly.”

🕒 3:30 P.M.

Emeka opened another page.

At the top, he wrote:

DON'T ONLY SELL YOUR TIME. BUILD VALUE.

Underneath, he wrote:

⏰ TIME

🧠 KNOWLEDGE

👥 PEOPLE

⚙️ SYSTEMS

💻 TECHNOLOGY

📦 PRODUCTS

🔄 PROCESSES

He realised that time is one of the most limited resources an entrepreneur has.

You can make more money.

You can buy more equipment.

You can hire more people.

You can improve your systems.

But nobody gets more than 24 hours in a day.

Then he wrote:

TIME → EFFORT → SYSTEM → LEVERAGE → GROWTH

🌙 THAT EVENING

Emeka looked at his ₦350,000.

He was no longer thinking only about:

“What business can I start?”

His questions were becoming more strategic.

Can this business grow?

Can I serve more customers?

Can I create a repeatable process?

Can technology reduce unnecessary work?

Can another person be trained to handle some tasks?

Can I build something that creates value beyond the hours I personally work?

He smiled.

He finally understood:

🔥 YOUR TIME IS VALUABLE — BUT YOUR BUSINESS SHOULD NOT DEPEND ENTIRELY ON YOUR TIME.

💡 THE BUSINESS LESSON

There is nothing wrong with working for money.

Jobs and personal services can create valuable income.

The problem comes when every naira you earn depends directly on another hour of your personal time.

Because your time has a limit.

You cannot work 24 hours a day.

You cannot personally serve every customer.

You cannot personally handle every task forever.

That is why entrepreneurs should learn to build:

✅ SYSTEMS

✅ PROCESSES

✅ TEAMS

✅ TECHNOLOGY

✅ PRODUCTS

✅ REPEATABLE VALUE

This is where LEVERAGE begins to become important.

Leverage means using available resources intelligently so your effort can create greater value.

Remember:

WORKING HARD IS NOT THE PROBLEM.

The bigger question is:

WHAT ARE YOU BUILDING WITH YOUR HARD WORK?

🔥 DON'T JUST BUILD A BUSINESS THAT NEEDS YOU TO WORK EVERY MINUTE. BUILD SYSTEMS THAT HELP THE BUSINESS WORK BETTER.

🎯 DAY 9 BUSINESS CHALLENGE

Choose one business idea you are considering.

Answer these questions:

1️⃣ How much of the business depends directly on your personal time?

2️⃣ What happens if you are unavailable for one day?

3️⃣ Can someone else be trained to handle some tasks?

4️⃣ What process can you document?

5️⃣ What task can technology simplify?

6️⃣ Can you create a product or service that can be delivered repeatedly?

7️⃣ How can you serve more customers without simply adding more hours to your day?

Then ask yourself:

> “AM I BUILDING A BUSINESS, OR AM I ONLY CREATING ANOTHER JOB FOR MYSELF?”

Don't be afraid of hard work.

USE YOUR HARD WORK TO BUILD SOMETHING THAT CAN GROW.
