DAY 8 — YOUR FAMILY HISTORY HAS ENTERED THE DISCUSSION
Yesterday, we retired “I am feeling fine” as a medical certificate.
Today, let us ask another question,
What runs in your family?
And please, I am not asking who inherited Grandpa’s house.
Because knowing your family’s history of certain cancers can help you and your doctor understand whether you may have a higher risk after screening.
But here is where many Nigerian family meetings become interesting.
Ask, “Has anyone in this family had cancer before?”
Suddenly, everybody is looking at the ceiling.
“Hmm… I think my auntie knew somebody…”
Please, let us investigate properly.
Knowing your family history does not mean you will develop cancer.
It simply gives you and your doctor useful information for making better health decisions.
Sometimes, knowing where your family has been can help you decide where you need to look next.
Do always trace your family history, It's necessary!
Till I write to you tomorrow, let keep our body healthy and be safe.
