📚 WEEK 1: BUSINESS MINDSET — STOP THINKING LIKE EVERYBODY

🎯 DON'T JUST WORK HARD. LEARN TO WORK SMART.

Lagos. 6:20 a.m.

Emeka woke up thinking about yesterday's lesson.

He had learnt:

KNOW YOUR NUMBERS BEFORE YOU GROW.

His ₦350,000 was still untouched.

But another question was beginning to bother him.

He opened his notebook and wrote:

WORK HARD → TIME → RESULTS

Then he asked himself:

> “What if I dey work hard… but my effort no dey give me enough result?”

That question followed him throughout the day.

🕘 9:00 A.M.

Emeka visited a small food business.

The owner was already working.

Very early.

He arrived before 7 a.m.

He cooked.

He served customers.

He bought ingredients.

He answered calls.

He delivered food.

He posted on WhatsApp.

He cleaned the shop.

He did almost everything himself.

Emeka watched him for a while.

Then he asked:

“Uncle, how business?”

The man sighed.

“I dey work tire.”

Emeka smiled.

“I know. But how much you dey make?”

The man replied:

“Business dey move, but I no get time for myself.”

Emeka asked:

“Which part of the business dey give you the best profit?”

The man paused.

“I never really check.”

“And which product dey waste your time?”

Another pause.

“I never check that one too.”

Emeka opened his notebook.

He wrote:

HARD WORK ≠ SMART WORK

🕚 11:30 A.M.

Emeka met Kunle.

“Guy, I think say I understand something new.”

Kunle laughed.

“Another lesson?”

“Yes.”

“Wetin be this one?”

“Working hard is important.”

Kunle nodded.

“But working hard without direction fit waste your time.”

Kunle looked interested.

Emeka continued:

“You fit spend 12 hours every day doing everything yourself.”

“You fit have plenty customers.”

“You fit be very busy.”

“But if the work no dey produce enough value…”

He paused.

“Your busyness no mean say your business dey grow.”

Kunle nodded slowly.

“So wetin be smart work?”

Emeka replied:

“Know wetin dey work.”

“Know wetin no dey work.”

“Focus your time on activities wey produce better results.”

“And find better ways to do repeated work.”

🕐 1:15 P.M.

Emeka decided to study the food business more closely.

He noticed something.

The owner was selling five different meals.

But one meal was responsible for most of the orders.

Another meal had very small demand.

Yet the owner spent almost the same amount of time preparing both.

Emeka asked:

“How much profit you dey make from each meal?”

The owner calculated.

Meal A:

SALES = ₦5,000

COSTS = ₦3,500

PROFIT = ₦1,500

Meal B:

SALES = ₦5,000

COSTS = ₦4,500

PROFIT = ₦500

Emeka asked:

“Which one dey give you better profit?”

“Meal A.”

“Which one customers dey buy pass?”

“Meal A.”

“Then why you dey spend the same effort on both?”

The man became quiet.

Emeka smiled.

“That one na smart work.”

🕒 3:40 P.M.

Emeka returned to his notebook.

He wrote:

WORK HARD.

Then underneath:

WORK SMART.

He started thinking differently.

Instead of asking:

“How can I work more?”

He began asking:

“How can I get better results from the work I am already doing?”

He listed:

🎯 FOCUS ON PROFITABLE ACTIVITIES

⏰ SAVE TIME ON REPETITIVE TASKS

📊 MEASURE RESULTS

🤝 DELEGATE WHEN NECESSARY

⚙️ IMPROVE YOUR PROCESS

📚 KEEP LEARNING

💡 USE LEVERAGE

Then he wrote:

EFFORT → SYSTEM → LEVERAGE → BETTER RESULTS

🌙 THAT EVENING

Emeka looked at his ₦350,000.

On Day 1, he was asking:

“Which business should I start?”

Now his questions were becoming deeper.

Who is my customer?

What problem am I solving?

How much will it cost?

How much profit can I make?

What activities create the most value?

What activities waste my time?

Can technology help me?

Can another person handle some tasks?

Can I create a system instead of doing everything manually?

Can I get better results without simply working longer hours?

Emeka smiled.

He realised something important:

A BUSINESS OWNER SHOULD NOT ONLY BE BUSY.

A BUSINESS OWNER SHOULD BE PRODUCTIVE.

💡 THE BUSINESS LESSON

Many people believe the solution to business problems is:

❌ Work longer hours

❌ Do everything yourself

❌ Add more products

❌ Chase every customer

❌ Keep yourself constantly busy

But smart entrepreneurs ask better questions:

✅ What produces the most value?

✅ What gives the best return on my time?

✅ What can I simplify?

✅ What can I automate?

✅ What can I delegate?

✅ What system can make this easier?

Remember:

BUSY ≠ PRODUCTIVE.

Working hard can help you move forward.

But working smart helps you make better use of your:

⏰ TIME

💰 MONEY

🧠 KNOWLEDGE

🤝 PEOPLE

⚙️ SYSTEMS

📈 LEVERAGE

The goal is not simply to work more.

The goal is to create better results from your effort.

Because:

🔥 YOU CAN WORK VERY HARD AND STILL WORK ON THE WRONG THING.

🎯 DAY 7 BUSINESS CHALLENGE

Think about the business you are considering.

Write down:

1️⃣ What activity will take most of your time?

2️⃣ Which activity can generate the most profit?

3️⃣ Which activities can be simplified?

4️⃣ What can technology help you do?

5️⃣ What can someone else help you handle?

6️⃣ What process can you turn into a system?

Then ask yourself:

> “AM I JUST WORKING HARD, OR AM I WORKING SMART?”

Don't just add more effort.

IMPROVE THE WAY YOU USE YOUR EFFORT.

WORK HARD.

WORK SMART.

CREATE LEVERAGE.
