📚 WEEK 1: BUSINESS MINDSET — STOP THINKING LIKE EVERYBODY
🎯 YOUR PROBLEM FIT BECOME YOUR BUSINESS
Lagos. 6:45 a.m.
Emeka woke up with a different kind of excitement.
His ₦350,000 was still untouched.
But his notebook was getting full.
Customers.
Problems.
Needs.
Value.
Business models.
He was beginning to understand that business was not simply about finding something to sell.
But one question kept disturbing him:
“IF I START WITH THE CUSTOMER, HOW DO I KNOW WHICH PROBLEM IS WORTH SOLVING?”
He opened his notebook.
At the top of a fresh page, he wrote:
WHAT PROBLEM CAN I SOLVE?
🕘 9:12 A.M.
Emeka went to buy breakfast.
As usual, he started observing people.
A woman was standing beside a roadside food seller.
She looked frustrated.
“Madam, I need to get to work. Abeg, make I no wait too long.”
The food seller was busy.
Customers were waiting.
Some people eventually left.
Emeka noticed something.
There was demand.
But the way the service was being delivered wasn't meeting everybody's needs.
He wrote in his notebook:
PROBLEM: PEOPLE NEED QUICK FOOD SERVICE BEFORE WORK.
Then another thought came.
“What if somebody creates a business around solving that problem?”
Maybe pre-packed breakfast.
Maybe pre-orders.
Maybe delivery to offices.
Maybe a simple WhatsApp ordering system.
The product could change.
But the problem remained.
That was the important part.
🕚 11:40 A.M.
Emeka met Kunle.
“Guy, I think I don see something.”
Kunle laughed.
“Another business idea?”
“Not exactly.”
“Then wetin?”
“I've been looking at problems.”
Kunle raised an eyebrow.
“Problems?”
“Yes. Because every problem fit represent an opportunity.”
Kunle shook his head.
“Not every problem na business.”
Emeka smiled.
“True.”
“So how you wan know which one?”
Emeka opened his notebook.
“I think I need to ask better questions.”
He wrote:
WHO HAS THE PROBLEM?
HOW SERIOUS IS IT?
HOW OFTEN DOES IT HAPPEN?
ARE PEOPLE ALREADY SPENDING MONEY TO SOLVE IT?
CAN I CREATE A BETTER SOLUTION?
Kunle looked at the page.
“So you no dey look for business idea again?”
Emeka smiled.
“I'm looking for problems worth solving.”
🕐 1:35 P.M.
Emeka decided to test his thinking.
He started listing everyday problems he had noticed.
Workers struggle to get affordable lunch.
Small businesses struggle to reach customers online.
Busy parents struggle to get reliable services.
Students struggle to find certain learning resources.
Small retailers struggle with deliveries.
People waste time moving from one place to another to get things they need.
Then Emeka noticed something.
These were not just problems.
They could become business opportunities if someone could create useful solutions.
But there was another lesson.
Not every problem should become a business.
A problem may be real but have no paying customers.
Another may have customers but be too expensive to solve.
Another may already have many strong competitors.
So Emeka added another line:
PROBLEM → CUSTOMER → SOLUTION → VALUE → BUSINESS MODEL
Now he was thinking differently.
🌙 THAT EVENING
Emeka sat at his desk.
His ₦350,000 was still in the bank.
He looked at his notebook.
On the first page, he had written:
WHAT BUSINESS CAN I START?
He crossed it out.
Underneath, he wrote:
WHAT PROBLEM CAN I HELP SOLVE?
Then he added:
WHO HAS THIS PROBLEM?
HOW OFTEN DO THEY EXPERIENCE IT?
WHAT ARE THEY DOING ABOUT IT NOW?
WHAT ARE THEY WILLING TO PAY FOR?
CAN I SOLVE IT PROFITABLY?
Emeka leaned back.
He finally understood something.
A business idea doesn't always begin with a product.
Sometimes it begins with an observation.
You see a problem.
You understand the people experiencing it.
You discover what they need.
Then you create a solution.
That solution becomes valuable.
And when the value can be delivered sustainably and profitably...
YOU MAY HAVE A BUSINESS.
💡 THE BUSINESS LESSON
Many people sit down and ask:
❌ “What business can I start?”
❌ “What product can I sell?”
❌ “What is everybody selling?”
Try asking:
✅ “WHAT PROBLEM CAN I HELP SOLVE?”
Good entrepreneurs learn to observe.
They notice:
• What frustrates people
• What wastes people's time
• What costs people too much
• What people struggle to access
• What people repeatedly complain about
• What people already spend money to solve
But don't stop at identifying a problem.
Ask:
WHO HAS THE PROBLEM?
HOW SERIOUS IS IT?
HOW ARE THEY SOLVING IT NOW?
WHAT WOULD A BETTER SOLUTION LOOK LIKE?
CAN I DELIVER THAT SOLUTION PROFITABLY?
Because a problem is not automatically a business.
The opportunity is in creating VALUE around the problem.
🔥 YOUR PROBLEM FIT BECOME YOUR BUSINESS!
🎯 DAY 3 BUSINESS CHALLENGE
Think about your environment today.
Write down 3 problems you observe.
For each problem, answer:
1️⃣ Who has this problem?
2️⃣ How serious is it?
3️⃣ How often does it happen?
4️⃣ How are people solving it now?
5️⃣ What does the current solution cost?
6️⃣ What better solution could you provide?
7️⃣ Could people pay for your solution?
Don't rush to start.
OBSERVE FIRST.
UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM.
THEN BUILD THE SOLUTION.
