Women are sharing stories about men who swear they’re “just friends,” only to later admit they were playing the long game. Men are responding by calling out influencers they believe are selling escorting as “high standards.” Some of these posts are hitting 20k+ likes, which tells me one thing: a lot of us are dealing with the same confusion.
Then there’s the other camp—the ones dragging “simps” and “pay masters” for turning dating into a financial transaction. And somewhere in between, a few people are still insisting that genuine male–female friendships exist, that not everything is about money or hidden intentions, and that self-improvement beats chasing a provider or a princess fantasy.
What stands out to me isn’t who’s right or wrong. It’s how drained everyone sounds. Too many mixed signals. Too much money talk. Too many blurred lines pretending to be romance.
At this point, it feels like people aren’t dating for connection anymore, they’re negotiating terms.
Maybe that’s why so many of us are cynical. We’re not heartless. We’re just exhausted.
