Somebody let you down, and now you're replaying it. "Why did I give so much? Why did I trust them? Why did I stay?"
Here's what I've learned:
Love is never a wasted investment, even when the return isn't what you hoped for.
You showed up for someone. You forgave, you sacrificed, you gave your time, your energy, your heart. If you did it with a sincere heart, that was your character speaking, and it doesn't become foolish just because the other person didn't value it.
Their reaction doesn't cancel who you are and your intention. You can't control how people receive love, but you can control who you choose to be.
So what do you do with the pain?
- Take the lesson, leave the guilt. Learn where you need boundaries, but don't punish yourself for having a good heart.
- Stop calling it a mistake. It was a choice made with the information and feelings you had at the time.
- Keep loving wisely. Be generous, but not careless. Love others without losing yourself.
Regret belongs to those who acted out of malice or selfishness. If you acted out of love, hold your head high.
Have you ever given love and felt it wasn't appreciated? Share in the comments. You're not alone.
