And suddenly everybody becomes Judge, jury and commentator cause that’s what we know to do best!

That’s cancel culture.

Cancel culture is basically when someone gets publicly dragged, exposed or called out for something they did, said or posted. Sometimes its serious stuff, sometimes its old stuff, sometimes its taken out of context and sometimes its just the internet bored and choosing a victim for the day. We’ve all seen it, someone fumbles one mistake and everyone becomes a moral philosopher, commenting whatever theories comes to their minds!

Cancel culture isn’t only existent in social media, it also lives within our communities, societies and peers. It’s not only visible abroad, it’s very evident in Nigeria. Cancel society says you shouldn’t associate with racist people, atheists or any one with any type of evil, its says “you’re a piece of dirt, I don’t wanna be friends with you”.

Cancel culture doesn’t understand grace and forgiveness. It puts a permanent label on people. All it does is put fear in our young minds, it has taken away authenticity, freedom and originality.

I was making a fun content with my friends and they’re like wait, it has to be scripted. After posting, comments will say still say it lacks originality…What exactly do they want from us?!

People didn’t like what Jesus preached about and had him killed. He is basically the first celebrity victim of cancel culture. So let’s be real;

Nobody is meant to be perfect,

Everybody has said something dumb before,

Everybody has bad takes in their past,

And everybody has grown from something.

But cancel culture doesn’t care about growth, it cares about punishment and entertainment.

Faith gives a different mindset though, It reminds me that people are not their worst mistakes. That growth, change and grace are real and effective. That accountability and compassion can co-exist together!

So many still hate and mock Judas but the while point of his life story us so that we can forgive him.

I’ve had my fair share of participation and I’ve cancelled my membership. So I’m learning to live with wisdom not fear

To be careful but not fake

I don’t want to live scared of mistakes

I want to live free, learning from them!

Trying to be a better person

Trying to be a good Christian.

Just like some of us are trying.
