A few years ago, I would’ve answered yes without thinking twice.

Today? I’m honestly not so sure.

Food prices have gone up, but if N5,000 is all you have until your next payday, you can still make it work with careful planning.

Here are a few meals I’d consider:

-Panla Fish Stew

If you already have rice, beans, or garri at home, spend most of your budget on tomatoes, pepper, onions, and a few pieces of panla. Add vegetables if you can to make it more filling and nutritious.

-Sweet Potatoes with Egg Sauce

A simple, satisfying meal that can easily get you through a day without constantly feeling hungry.

-Beans porridge

Beans porridge remains one of the cheapest foods that keep you full for hours. Eat it with bread, soaked garri, or on its own, depending on what you already have at home.

-Okra Soup with Panla fish

A pot of okra soup can last several days if you portion it well. Pair it with eba, fufu, or any swallow you already have.

Everyone’s situation is different, but when money is tight, the goal is to buy foods that are filling, versatile, and can last more than one meal.
