Walk into almost any supermarket, pharmacy or online store and you'll probably see products marketed as “feminine washes,” “intimate washes,” or products that promise to keep you “fresh” all day. 👀
But do you actually need them?
Here are 5 things every woman should know:
🌸 1. Your vagina cleans itself.
You don't need to put a special wash inside your vagina to keep it clean. The vagina naturally maintains its own healthy environment.
🧼 2. Focus on the vulva, not the vagina.
The outside area (the vulva) can be gently cleaned. You generally don't need harsh soaps, scented products or special washes to keep it healthy.
🌺 3. “Feminine” doesn't automatically mean “better.”
Some products contain fragrances or ingredients that may irritate sensitive skin. If a product causes burning, itching, dryness or discomfort, stop using it.
🚫 4. Don't use feminine washes to treat infections.
If you have unusual discharge, a strong persistent odour, itching, burning or pain, a feminine wash may only mask the problem or irritate the area further.
It's better to find out what's actually causing the symptoms.
🇳🇬 5. Don't feel pressured by Nigerian beauty and hygiene marketing.
You may see these products everywhere from pharmacies and supermarkets to online stores, but you don't have to buy something simply because it's marketed as essential for “feminine hygiene.”
Sometimes, simple is enough.
💚 A healthy vagina doesn't need to smell like perfume.
A mild natural scent can be completely normal. What matters is noticing a sudden or persistent change, especially when it comes with other symptoms.
And please, ladies, never put perfumes, antiseptics, bleaching products or random homemade mixtures inside your vagina. 😭
Your intimate area deserves care, not punishment.
👀 Be honest:
Have you ever bought a feminine wash because you thought you needed it?
YES, I use one regularly 🧴
NO, I've never used one
I used to, but I stopped
I'm just hearing this for the first time! 😭
