Fuji legend Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, has officially turned in the mandatory genealogical data form to the Fusengbuwa ruling house — the next lineage scheduled to produce the Awujale of Ijebu Ode.
Confirming the development to The PUNCH on Wednesday, the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa ruling house, Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi, said the family has scheduled an emergency meeting for Thursday at Ile Nla to deliberate on Ayinde’s interest in the royal stool.
The Awujale position became vacant in July following the passing of Oba Sikiru Adetona at age 91.
Owoyemi explained that the lineage verification form, which requires applicants to trace their ancestry over seven generations, is meant to ensure only true members of the Fusengbuwa family contest for the throne.
He noted that once a contender’s lineage is confirmed, they can then proceed to obtain the expression of interest form.
Although the deadline for picking up the forms was Friday, December 5, the family granted Ayinde a five-day extension, which expired on Wednesday, December 10.
“Yes, he sent a representative to submit his form, and the family will meet on Thursday to review all nomination-related matters,” Owoyemi said.
Ayinde currently holds the title of Olori Omooba of Ijebu land, typically tied to the Fidipote ruling house. His decision to seek recognition under the Jadiara section of the Fusengbuwa lineage has therefore raised eyebrows.
His form reportedly claims descent from the Setejoye family under the Jadiara ruling house through his father, Adisa Adesanya Anifowoshe.
However, his submission has sparked controversy, as two key family heads have openly challenged his claimed ancestry.
The Chairman of the Jadiara ruling house, Otunba Akinola Odedina, issued a letter stating that Ayinde has no genealogical connection to the Jadiara family.
According to him, “The Chairman of the Fusengbuwa ruling house may have given him a nomination form in hopes he would verify his roots. We have been expecting him to present documents proving his link to the Jadiara Royal House. He has not appeared.”
Similarly, Alhaji O. B. Yusuf, Chairman of the Bubiade royal family, also asserted that neither Ayinde nor his father belongs to their lineage.
