A fire broke out at Army Arena Market around 6pm, and watching videos from the scene is heartbreaking. Traders were helpless as shops — many already locked up for the holidays — went up in flames. Some people reportedly returned from travel just to meet their livelihoods reduced to ashes.

Firefighters tried to contain it, but eyewitnesses said water supply was a major issue. Thankfully, no casualties have been confirmed yet.

Coming just days after the Balogun Market fire, this is another painful reminder of how unsafe our markets still are. So many people losing everything, again. Lagos really needs to take market safety more seriously.
