I used to think something was wrong with me because I couldn’t dance to the music everyone else loved at parties. Like… why am I forcing my body to move while my soul is bored? 😭

So I found this survey someone ran on danceable music and it honestly humbled me. People rated ~140 clips across genres (techno, house, swing, festival DJ sets, etc.) on how much they made them want to dance.

Turns out the songs that scored highest weren’t “deep cuts” or underground genius. They were classics like “Rasputin,” “One More Time,” “Hung Up,” and “Hey Ya!”
Meanwhile, the most undanceable tracks were cinematic, artsy, almost intellectual pieces.

The wild part: even people with serious dance training didn’t overwhelmingly reject the obvious crowd-pleasers. Skill didn’t automatically equal “better taste.”

It kind of changed how I see dance floors. Maybe dance music isn’t about being impressed. Maybe it’s about shared rhythm, familiarity, and letting go.

Still hate hippie DJ sets though. That’s personal. 💀
