Remember the fish themselves are only part of the cost. You don't Just fix your focus on the price of the Juveniles you are buying, it forms only a part of the equation.

This is what it actually cost me to setup my catfish farm in Kaduna state Nigeria, it might varies depending on your location:

1- The Pond / Setup: I'm using a tarpaulin pond 5×8×4feet depth and it cost me #85,000 only.

2- Juveniles: Not just Juveniles but healthy and active Juveniles. I started with 300 Juveniles since i am a beginner. It cost me #45,000 .

3- Feed: I understand their feeding depends on their biomass therefore, i bought 1bag/25kg feed of 1.5 mm. I will be weighing them every 2weeks because as their biomass increases so is their feeding. I'm feeding them 600g daily at a 4% feeding rate. It cost me #31,000 for a bag/25kg feed.

4- Water: I'm using well water therefore, i bought: 

* Water pump machine #110,000

* Hose(that draws water from well) #56,000 14yrds

* Hose( Despenser) #22,500

5- Treatment / Salt/ Other supplies: For now i only bought a bag of salt at #19,000.

6- Miscellaneous: Transport, Fuel, Pipe work etc. at #35,000

Total startup/ Initial operating cost stood at #403,500.

Now like i said, do not start a fish farm with just the funds for only the Pond and Juveniles. I set aside #200,000 for day to day operations and any emergency that may arise.
