“Don’t wait. Sometimes later becomes never. Do it now.”
That was what the Imam emphasized during the khutbah today. His sermon was centered on preparing for the holy month of Ramadan, which will begin in about two weeks.
We are to prepare our bodies by observing voluntary fasts and being mindful of what we eat. All of this is aimed at ensuring our bodies are in good condition to observe the twenty-nine or thirty days of fasting with relative ease. We prepare our souls by improving our ‘ibādah from now and by consciously leaving sins we are currently engaged in, rather than waiting until Ramadan begins to make those changes.
The goal is to make the month feel familiar to our souls, not foreign. Ramadan is a once-a-year opportunity, one we are not guaranteed to witness again. So we should strive to prepare for it as though it might be our last, while also praying that Allah grants us life to witness it.
May Allah allow us to witness this coming Ramadan in sound condition, both body and soul, and grant us many more Ramadans upon the surface of the earth. Āmīn.
I woke up today feeling like a conqueror who had just won a war. The enthusiasm was high, and I glided through my morning routine with ease. It’s Jumu‘ah, the best day of the week.
Today was a work-from-home day, but it wasn’t as productive as I had hoped. I found myself working only on databases, even though I planned to do more. I had to settle for that. I managed to finish an episode I started yesterday, checked my emails, hoping to find one that would make my day, and spent the rest of the time scrolling through my socials. I don’t even have much gist for you today; my days lately have been quite boring.
Things I’m grateful for today:
Sleep. I took a power nap, as this girl would call it, tonight, and it felt really good. That’s why this entry is coming in late.
Islam. I had a conversation today about adhering to the guidelines Islam lays down for us and how, over time, we come to realize that they are ultimately for our own benefit.
Qur’an. The constant.
